This years Elverys Galway Bay Half
Marathon & 10k takes place on Saturday 1st October 2011 and
includes a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a 10k run/walk in association with
Cancer Care West along a fast, flat, fun and scenic route starting and finishing
along Galway’s famous coast line on the edge of the city and the Bay. The Twelve Hotel, Galway is perfectly located for those wishing to be in the middle of all the action.

The race starts at the entrance of Nimmos Pier at the Claddagh and heads west along
Gratten Road, turning for a full loop of South Park beside the entrance to the new Causeway where the full beauty of Galway Bay comes into view for the first time. A chance to warm up in the fast first mile, you will be quickly on your way towards the world famous Galway Promenade in
Salthill. The finish line at the entrance to South Park leads directly to the
race marquee where well earned refreshments are available to greet the
homecoming participants. A “family fun” element has been added to the event this
year including activities for kids such as facepainting, bouncy castles, music and a few spectacular surprises.
This years prize fund includes :
- €500 prize fund each for the male and female winner of the half marathon
and runner up prizes of Elverys Sports vouchers for various male and female categories
- A team prize fund of €2,000. The fund is made up of a first male
team prize of €1,000 and a first female team prize of €1,000.
