The Twelve Wins Hotel of The Year & Turns Wine into Gold
Boutique Galway Hotel Wins Two Top Hospitality Awards
The Twelve Hotel nestled at the gateway to Connemara in Galway's picturesque village of Bearna, has scooped not one, but two of the Irish hospitality industry's top awards, the Hotel of The Year at the 2018 Georgina Campbell Awards and the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Wine Experience.
The four-star boutique hotel was noted for its "fresh, youthful style and an exceptionally focused food and wine offering" “close to both Connemara and Galway City” at the 2018 Georgina Campbell Awards in Dublin. Speaking of the hotel and General Manager Fergus O’Halloran, "an inspired (and inspiring) proprietor", The Twelve "sings of quality and innovation at every level", Campbell said.
This was the second win for The Twelve in seven days as just a week ago the hotel was recognised once again for their outstanding wine offering as they were awarded the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for The Best Wine Experience in Ireland.
With numerous awards already under their belt including Wine Spectator Awards, AA Rosettes and Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards to name but a few, General Manager and sommelier Fergus O’Halloran is used to getting praise for his boutique hotel. Passionate about both food and wine, Fergus works hard with Head Chef Martin O’Donnell to ensure that the menu and wine list provide an exceptional guest experience as well as exceptional value.
Conceived in 2007 and born into the most difficult of trading years, The Twelve never lost sight of its vision of providing exceptional guest experiences and striving to be the very best at everything it does. This is evident in their new ice cream brand, their own beer, their pizza dozzina concept and their own bakery shop. Their numerous awards for food, wine and service is a testament to the people who work in The Twelve. Fergus describes these people as exceptionally passionate, caring and is honoured to consider them as his friends.
Speaking about these latest awards Fergus O’Halloran says, “We are always delighted to be recognised for the hard work and dedication we put in here at The Twelve. Every element of The Twelve has received national acclaim over the last number of years. And all of this as we struggled through hard times with little to no capital investment. So we all had to work extra hard and focus on the basics of hospitality. Being awarded ‘Hotel of the Year’ is even so much more meaningful. It gives me the greatest sense of satisfaction I have yet received but more importantly, for the 90+ people who I am honored to call my friends, who I work with in The Twelve everyday, this award is for them and due to them. They are my muse.
“It is also for our many fans of The Twelve Hotel who love what we do, our very many local and regular guests who spend endless days and evenings in our restaurants and consequently add to the guest experience of those staying with us. The Twelve has always been about offering something personal, different and shooting for the stars. Winning the award of Ireland’s Hotel of the Year 2018 is the culmination.”
“Thank you to every single member of my team, our passionate local suppliers and growers and all of our regulars guests who are so much a part of The Twelve and what we have become. This award is for you. We’ll work so hard to honour it and we have so much more to do”.
“We are also very proud to win the Gold Medal Award for Wine Experience. It’s terrific to know that our wine list and the knowledge we offer to our guests is appreciated and celebrated in this way. These two new awards are as cherished as the ones that went before them and we look forward to continuing to push the boat out in everything we do!”
