Things to do in Barna Galway in 24 hours
Just a short drive from Galway City, along the Atlantic Way lies a trio of Gaeltacht villages known for their picturesque views of the sea, friendly locals and wonderful dining spots, Bearna, (as it’s known ás Gaeilge) is the first of those and is the gateway between Gaillimh, Irelands city of culture, and the beautiful wild National Park that is Connemara.
The day of arrival
15:00 Hrs
Arrive in good time, check into your room, drop the bags and explore the beautiful coastal village of Barna… begin by taking a brisk walk down The Pier road and get that wild Atlantic sea air into your lungs, stroll back at your leisure and perhaps get one of those all to necessary “sneaky” pints!
17:00 Hrs
Book a treatment in our Le Petite Spa while him or herself enjoy the relaxed vibes of Hotels Gastro Bar; the Pins.
19:00 Hrs
Put the good clothes on and head upstairs for a one-of-a-kind dining experience in Blackthorn where Nathan Hindmarsh’s carefully curated menu feature a unique combination of dishes cooked over a Mibrasa charcoal grill, an innovative method that infuses every bite with the rich, smoky flavours of a traditional cooking style but with a modern take.
THE NEXT DAY...
9:30 Hrs
After a sumptuous cooked breakfast burn it off with a walk to Barna Woods where there are ample gorgeous trails to explore, interesting historical features or bring your pooch (the hotel is pet friendly) and your pals for a walk in some of Galway’s most beautiful woodland.
11:00 Hrs
Visit the Mícil Distillery located in Salthill village. The region has always been celebrated for its Poítin, but now Padraic and Jimin O’Griallas careful handcrafted it using local botanicals and of course their unique family recipe .. they’ve only six generations of distilling knowhow!
12:30 Hrs
Jump back in the car and head West to Spiddal, the third Gaeltacht village, shopping isn’t for everyone but I dare you not to enjoy a visit to Standún. This family run clothing and gift store has been a treasured landmark since its opening in 1946. With their large stock of gorgeous items including the famous Aran Knitwear and the incredible customer service you’ll find yourself traveling out to visit them, time and time again.
